Inputs
Multiplier on ideal velocity; use the probe calibration.
1 assumes the measured speed equals the area-average speed. A single centerline reading usually does not.
Results
Choose your inputs and calculate.
Calculation basis
Vlocal = C √(2ΔP/ρ) ΔP = ρ(Vlocal/C)²/2 Vmean = Vlocal × mean/local ratio Q = Vmean πD²/4 (optional circular duct)
How to use this calculator
Use the difference between stagnation pressure and static pressure. Enter density at the measurement conditions. Leave duct diameter at zero for a local-velocity result only. For duct flow, supply the diameter and a justified profile correction.
Incompressible approximation. For gases, use this only at low Mach number (typically below 0.3). A Pitot tube measures local speed. Duct flow needs a representative traverse or a justified mean/local velocity ratio.
